Magnetic SEO Extension Privacy
Last updated: October 29, 2026
Magnetic SEO ("we") makes the Magnetic SEO Chrome extension. This policy explains what the extension reads, what it sends to other services, and what it stores in your browser. It replaces the Chrome Store Policy previously published on magneticwp.com. Your account and purchases on this website are covered by our Privacy Policy.

The extension has no analytics. It never sends inspected page text, technology results, SEO reports or your browsing history to Magnetic SEO. The one exception is YouTube Stats: to calculate revenue estimates and the SEO Score, it sends the public details of the YouTube video, Short or channel you're viewing, as described under YouTube Stats.
Information the extension reads
When you open the extension on a web page, it reads information from that page to show its inspection results. This can include the page URL, title and metadata, visible text, headings, links, images, structured data, and public technology signals. Page inspection and technology detection run in your browser. The extension does not send inspected page text, technology results, or SEO reports to Magnetic SEO.
The extension requests the page's robots.txt, checks common sitemap locations when robots.txt does not list a sitemap, and checks for llms.txt. The Overview may load the page's declared Open Graph or Twitter preview image, and the site's icon or favicon, from the host named by the page. These image requests omit the referrer.
Pro license and sign-in
The free features need no account and no license, and make no licensing calls.
If you activate Pro, the extension sends your license key, an anonymous browser ID created by the extension, and a browser label such as "Chrome on Windows" to magneticseo.dev when you activate, when it checks the license, and when you deactivate. While Pro is active, it checks the license about every three days, using Chrome's alarms permission to schedule the check. These requests never include the pages you visit, your browsing history, or inspection results. The license key and the signed license status are kept in Chrome's extension storage on your device. If Chrome sync is on, the anonymous browser ID is also kept in Chrome's synced extension storage, so it stays the same if you reinstall the extension; it's used to apply the one-free-trial-per-browser rule. It contains nothing else and is never used to track you.
If you choose Sign in, the extension opens our sign-in page in a sign-in window, using Chrome's identity permission. After you sign in and connect the browser, magneticseo.dev gives the extension a one-time code that links this browser to your account. You can disconnect a browser at any time from your account's Licenses page or from the extension.
Broken Link Checker
The Broken Link Checker is an optional tool in Tools. When you open it, the extension saves the list of links found on the inspected page, along with the page URL and title, in Chrome session storage and opens the checker in a new tab. The checker needs optional access to http and https sites, and Chrome asks for it only after you choose Allow on the checker page. Once allowed, your browser sends a request (HEAD, or GET when a site does not support HEAD) directly to each linked URL to read its HTTP status and any redirect destination. These requests do not include cookies, and response content is discarded without being read or stored. The linked sites receive the request as they would from any visitor and handle it under their own privacy policies. Results stay on your device and are not sent to Magnetic SEO. The report is copied to your clipboard only when you choose Copy report.
Image Extractor
The Image Extractor is an optional tool in Tools. When you open it, the extension collects the images the current page uses: regular images and their larger srcset versions, CSS background images, inline SVGs, copies of up to 20 canvas drawings, the page's social preview images and its site icons. It saves that list, with each image's address, alt text and size, and the page URL, in Chrome session storage and opens the extractor in a new tab.
Previews load directly from each image's own site, without the referrer. Downloading images (one at a time or as a ZIP file) needs optional access to http and https sites, and Chrome asks for it only when you first download. Downloads are fetched without cookies or the referrer, the ZIP file is built in your browser, and the files are saved only to your computer. An image address is copied to your clipboard only when you choose Copy. The image sites receive these requests as they would from any visitor and handle them under their own privacy policies. Nothing from the Image Extractor is sent to Magnetic SEO.
YouTube Stats
YouTube Stats is an optional feature controlled by a switch in the extension. Chrome does not grant it access to YouTube until you turn the switch on for the first time and approve the access request. While enabled, the extension reads public video and channel information on YouTube pages and displays an in-page panel.
Some figures are obtained from additional requests to YouTube's own public pages, such as the channel's About page, the current video's watch page, and up to five of the channel's recent video pages. Caption or transcript data is read from the video player already loaded on the page; the extension does not use a third-party caption service. Monetization, RPM, revenue, and Shorts scorecard figures are estimates calculated from public signals. They are not YouTube Studio data or historical view tracking.
RPM, revenue and Shorts earnings estimates are calculated on magneticseo.dev. For a video, the extension sends the video's public title, tags, hashtags, description, category, view count, length, upload date and location tag, its audio and caption languages, the channel's country setting, and the languages (never the text) of the comments loaded on the page. For a channel page (Pro only), it sends the channel's public title, description and keywords, country, category, recent video titles, view counts and upload dates, and total views. For a Short, it sends the view count. Each request also includes an anonymous browser ID, and your license key when Pro is active, so the right plan's figures come back. These details are public on YouTube; they're used only to calculate the estimate and are not stored. The browser ID and your network address are counted for up to an hour to limit abuse. Nothing about your own account, viewing history or other pages is sent. Video thumbnails may load from YouTube's image host.
The SEO Score is also calculated on magneticseo.dev. When you open the SEO Score tab, the extension sends the video's public title, description, tags, hashtags, chapters, caption types (manual or automatic, never the caption text itself), category, the transcript lines spoken in the first 30 seconds, whether the video has an HD thumbnail, and the focus keyword if you typed one, with the same anonymous browser ID and license key. These details are used only to calculate the score and are not stored.
Domain lookup
When you open the Domain tab, or enter a domain and run the Whois / RDAP lookup, that domain name is sent to rdap.org, which routes the request to the relevant domain registry. Only the domain name is sent, never the page's address, text, or other content. The extension displays registration information returned through that service. Some information may be redacted or unavailable. The lookup does not run in the background or on pages you have not opened the extension on. It uses the public RDAP service's own open access, so the extension does not need site access permission for it. The result is stored in Chrome session storage for the current browser session; Chrome clears session storage when the session ends.
External analysis links
The extension includes links to external services such as Google, Bing, PageSpeed Insights, Moz, Similarweb, Semrush, and the Internet Archive. If you choose to open one, the link may include the inspected domain or page URL so that service can analyze it. Those services operate independently and handle the information under their own privacy policies.
Screenshots and browser storage
If you use the screenshot tool, the extension captures the visible page, a selected area, or a full-page image. It temporarily stores the screenshot in Chrome local storage so the screenshot editor can open it, then removes the payload after the editor loads it. If you take a screenshot and do not open the editor, that stored image is replaced the next time you take another screenshot. The screenshot stays on your device unless you choose to copy, download, print, or save it elsewhere.
The extension uses Chrome local storage for the YouTube Stats setting, for your license details when Pro is active, for a count of free Image Extractor uses, and temporarily for screenshot editing. It uses Chrome sync storage only for the anonymous browser ID described above. It uses Chrome session storage for the RDAP result, for the link list used by the Broken Link Checker, and for the image list used by the Image Extractor. YouTube display preferences, such as compact view, are kept in that page's session storage. This information stays on your device. The extension does not use analytics or send browsing history to Magnetic SEO.
Permissions and user control
The extension uses Chrome's activeTab and scripting permissions to inspect the page after you open the extension, and storage, unlimitedStorage, and clipboardWrite for its settings, temporary screenshot data, and user-requested copy actions. It uses identity only to open the magneticseo.dev sign-in window when you choose Sign in, and alarms only to schedule the Pro license check. YouTube and Broken Link Checker host access are optional. The domain lookup needs no extra permission. YouTube access can be granted in the welcome or Settings page, or requested when you enable YouTube Stats in Tools. Granting YouTube access from Settings does not turn on the feature. The Broken Link Checker can request optional access to http and https sites, and Chrome asks for it only when you choose Allow on the checker page. That access is used only to read the HTTP status of the links you check. The Image Extractor can request the same optional access when you download images, and uses it only to fetch the images you choose to save. The extension does not request access to all websites at install. Chrome may restrict access on browser-internal and other protected pages. You can revoke site access in Chrome's extension settings or uninstall the extension at any time.
